One of my first jobs as a teenager was picking up trash for the Department of Ecology on beaches and roadsides in the San Juan Islands. I’m traveling back in time with this new series. Over the winter of 2026, I trekked the wild ocean beaches of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula picking up trash, AKA Art Supplies. All the materials used in these pieces – from beach flotsam to scrap wood and metal to vintage marine charts, was FOUND and reinvented.

About the Artist

Meghan Crandall

Crandall finds joy and satisfaction in breathing new life into discarded and unloved scraps. Through her artwork she hopes to encourage people to think differently, use less/upcycle and cherish the boundless beauty and power of nature. Her photographic work has been exhibited and collected nationally, including Photographic Center Northwest, Blue Sky Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts, City of Seattle Permanent Collection, and featured in the Encyclopedia of Inspiration, Botanica. She lives in Seattle, where she and her partner run the visual arts studio, Kick Spark Creative.
